Starting in December 2024, Thailand will implement a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for nationals of visa-exempt countries, significantly affecting the travel process for millions of visitors. The system will be fully operational by June 2025 and integrated with the current e-Visa platform, offering a streamlined digital experience for travelers entering Thailand by air, land, or sea.
The ETA will be required for citizens of 93 countries that currently enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for stays of up to 60 days. Each ETA will allow a single entry and will be valid for up to 60 days, with the option to extend the stay by an additional 30 days.
The application process for the ETA will be entirely digital, with travelers submitting their information online through Thailand’s e-Visa portal. Importantly, there will be no fee for applying, a feature designed to encourage compliance and facilitate the transition for frequent travelers.
